PEACE LOVE AND PIT BULLS

Rescues, Trains, and Places Pit Bulls—One at a Time!

We featured Tino Sanchez and his Pittie crew 3 years ago in The American Dog Magazine Winter 2009 Issue. They were in our “Dog Parent Family” section. Back then, he had his Pittie 4-pack of Buster, Shorty, Boo-Boo, and Rocky. Fast forward to December 2011: He just rescued Buddy from the shelter, so there are 5 canine kids all wanting dad’s attention now!

Outbound Hounds and Handsome Dan’s Rescue

In a well-known 2007 court case, NFL star quarterback Michael Vick was found guilty for all charges related to conducting an illegal dog-fighting ring on his premises for over five years. People were shocked. Anyone who had even a slight fondness of dogs was aghast at the cruel treatment these animals were forced to endure. Vick was sentenced to serve 23 months in prison. The trial was over. But what would happen to the 66 dogs (55 of whom were Pit Bulls) that were removed from his property? Even most animal advocacy groups thought these dogs to be too vicious for anything but euthanasia.

American Humane Association

Since its founding in 1877, American Humane Association has been at the forefront of virtually every major advance in protecting children, pets, and farm animals from cruelty, abuse and neglect. Today, we’re also leading the way in understanding human-animal interaction and its role in society.

Deirdre Franklin - Founder of Pinups for Pit Bulls

Deirdre Franklin's love for Pit Bulls began while volunteering at a shelter. She attempted to adopt a Pit Bull-type dog, but was declined because of the dog's appearance. That shelter, like many others, had a kill-Pit-Bull policy, regardless of the dog's demeanor, history, or temperament.

After 14 years of Abuse - Sarge Was Rescued!

Every dog has his day, but for Sarge that day came after 14 years of abuse. On September 25, 2009, the Pennsylvania SPCA rescued Sarge and 30 other dogs as part of a major animal cruelty raid in Philadelphia.

This summer, the Companion Animal Protection Society and the Santa Cruz SPCA teamed up with Air France and the French Societé Défense des Animaux (SDA) to launch Riviera Rescue, a new international project to save red-listed dogs in California and airlift them to the south of France.
