Any Sea-Dweller with a great story of adventure is worth more than one without. Then we have the Comex and Omani fake watches. However, the holy grail of these mega Rolex divers is undoubtedly the Single-Red Sea-Dweller, which is why it was so significant to see Rolex close the loop this year by adding just a single line of red text to the best Rolex Replica here.

We never have secrets about our all-consuming love affair with the Rolex GMT-Master series. So when a very nice vintage watch comes through our doors, we’re going to close it. 
The subject today is just such a fake watch. If you were to make a list of everything a vintage Rolex collector looks for in the great early GMT-Master, this one checks each box.
It was the second generation of the GMT-Master family, having replaced the initial watch, made popular in that greatest of all Bond movies, Gold finger. This model had a long run, starting life in 1959 and finally being granted a well-earned retirement 21 years later in 1980.
It was this replica that introduced crown guards to the series and also replaced the original’s fragile Bakelite bezel with an all-new aluminum insert—two testaments to the fake Rolex‘s dedication in making their aviator’s watch sturdy enough to wear as a stylish daily beater.

Made in 1963, it is also complete with the minutiae that cause brand purists to go all misty-eyed; what can be described as a Mark 1 model, before any of the pertinent little details were swapped or updated.
For example, the pointed crown guards, given the nickname El Cornino from the Italian for ‘horns’, were superseded two years later by more rounded replacements. That short production run gives these replica watches an enviable scarcity value, made even better by the rather light wear the guards have received. Many examples of GMTs of this era have suffered from over-polishing, eroding their distinctive shape.

The plan was to sell the watch at an inaugural auction in New York City with a select 49 lots surrounding the legendary chronograph itself. When asked what he thought when he found out that Phillips would sell the fake watch, vintage Rolex dealer Andrew Shear said, “Wow, Aurel did it again.”
However, it is still the most expensive wristwatch to ever sell at auction, beating out the aforementioned Rolex Bao Dai and the steel Patek Philippe 1518. It’s flat-out madness, and there’s no other way to put it.
If you take a step back and compare the Paul Newman Daytona to either the Bao Dai or the steel 1518, it’s a rather simple watch. It’s a stainless steel chronograph with an exotic dial and a Valjoux movement inside, and there were thousands of completely identical fake Rolex Daytona in the 1960s. The Bao Dai is a unique watch with a gold case and bracelet, a diamond dial, and the most sophisticated movement Rolex that has ever produced; the steel Patek Philippe 1518 is one of four known examples of the first serially-produced perpetual calendar chronograph not made in precious metal. The value of the Paul Newman Daytona comes down to provenance and market effects, end of the story. There’s no other way to explain it.
Unfortunately, however, the sale of the Paul Newman Daytona has started a new chapter for the watch industry. Never before has a watch drawn so much attention to our world. People who aren’t generally interested in replica watches at all were asking me about this watch because of the magnitude of press surrounding this sale. There was coverage beyond our wildest watch dreams. The Oysterdate first appeared in the 1960s and remained one of the brand’s least famous series until it was eventually interrupted in the late 80s. 
Easily disrupted with the Oyster Perpetual and Oyster Perpetual Date ranges, the Oysterdate is actually something of an oddity in the replica Rolex canon. Surprisingly, for the company that invented the perpetual, self-winding movement, the Oysterdate was never fitted with an automatic caliber, even towards the end of its run in the 80s.
It is exciting that a watchmaker as progressive as Rolex kept a manually wound movement on its books until so recently. Even the Daytona, with the understandable excuse of needing a far more sophisticated chronograph engine, was granted the El Primero in that decade. 
However, the fact is that its straightforwardness only adds to the Oysterdate’s charm. In an ever-more automated world, there is a real fascination in doing something as nostalgic as winding a beautifully made watch.
For the burgeoning collector of vintage watches, it can represent the first buy-in to the brand, a model that manages to be very affordable and easily found on the pre-owned market, but so unfamiliar amongst even knowledgeable enthusiasts that it’s unlikely you’ll come across many in the wild.
It appeared with several different colorful dial options over its two-decade lifespan, with blue, silver, and black being by far the most prevalent. Look hard enough and you’ll come across versions set off by yellow gold accents on the indexes and hands as well as the crown logo.

What’s your daily watch at the moment? 
Being a fake watch collector, I own several watches from different brands, so I do not have a real daily watch, as I change them too often. I do, however, like to wear replica watches that are robust enough to accompany me on a swim or other exercise.
How do you unwind?
After a long day, I love to cook a wonderful dinner with my wonderful girlfriend, accompanied by a delicious wine to relax. So I’m drifting more towards the smaller at the moment, independent watch brands, of which I have two watches incoming this year. One is a Dornblüth & Sohn with a special dial I commissioned nearly a year ago to be a commemorative watch for my 25th birthday in June this year. 
What’s your daily ride?
A pretty unspectacular Skoda Rapid, which is a great car that offers enough space and the right amount of comfort for my daily drives. To tell the truth, I’m not much of a car guy. I can surely appreciate a nice car but I have never felt the urge to spend much money on one myself – I would rather spend that money on watches or a lovely holiday with my girlfriend.
What are you working on now?
My current schedule is packed with work at 8past10, as we are continuously adding more features to the network for our users to enjoy. We have just recently introduced the Quiz feature to the app, which allows users to challenge their knowledge about the watch industry against the rest of our community. We are adding new questions daily so that you can challenge yourself many times. Actually, we are simultaneously working on other new features. I won’t tell you about those just yet, but I would invite you to find out yourself in the coming weeks. I am also doing my studies in electrical engineering to reach my master’s degree at the same time, so I do have a very busy schedule at the moment.
